Letters to Blakely from Stuyvesant Fish, president of the Illinois Central and Yazoo and Mississippi Valley railroad companies, requesting Blakely's organization sponsor the subscription drive to purchase a silver service to be presented to the cruiser U.S.S. New Orleans by the people of New Orleans; and a letter from Captain William Folger, U.S. Navy commander of the U.S.S. New Orleans, suggesting types of services that might be purchased. An incomplete list of subscribers and the amounts subscribed is included.
